HISTORY |
1995 Wesant was
founded by Digby Wareing and has become one of South
Africa’s leading manufacturers in locally produced lifting
equipment. The Wesant name originally was used for a sewing
company. When the Wareing's started making hoist gates out
of the family garage the sewing company's invoice book still
had a few pages left and Wesant, the hoist gate
manufacturing business began. Wesant currently occupies
530mē of office and factory space in Westmead and employs 14
full time employees. Both the square meters and employee
figures are growing each year. At present the factory
supplies the South African market with a little over 100
units each year. WESANT is on a mission to increase this
figure substantially in the coming years.
|
All Wesant
products comply with current regulations governing each
specific type of equipment in the SANS 1545 series. Both
management and employees adhere to the recommendations of
the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85/1993 and in doing
so aim to maximize efficiency as well as maintain a high
quality of workmanship and quality control.
|
In an effort to
improve the current skills level among staff, and to train
more people to become lift technicians, Wesant are currently
building a training facility and has been accredited by
MERSETA as a training facility for apprentices in the lift
mechanic trade. At present, Wesant offers this training
opportunity to 4 learners, all graduates of technical
colleges. All learnerships are governed by MERSETA and the
curriculum of the MEIETB is followed precisely. Due to the
immense shortage of skilled labour in the elevator industry,
the investment that Wesant has made in this respect is
immeasurable. It is the firm belief that training workers in
the skills of the trade is the only way to ensure that the
high standards to which Wesant adhere can be communicated
effectively and preserved for years to come.

Research and
development plays a significant role in the day to day
operation of the manufacturing plant. In order to keep
abreast with latest technological developments and products
available throughout the world, Wesant representatives
regularly visit exhibitions specific to the lift industry in
the interest of sourcing well priced, technologically
advanced components from the leading worldwide suppliers.
Wesant engineers are continually using all available
resources to gain access to new and improved components and
conditions that will better their capacity to supply the
South African market with the most innovative yet
competitively priced units. Wesant currently invests a
significant amount of resources a year in R & D in order to
discover and assess various alternatives to current trends
and perhaps discover something unique that will set us apart
from all the rest. |
